WASHINGTON, D.C. – Compete America, a coalition dedicated to ensuring that the United States has the highly educated and innovative workforce necessary to grow the economy and create American jobs, today issued the following statement about President Donald Trump’s “Buy American, Hire American” executive order.

“Compete America is in favor of balanced reforms to the H-1B program, ensuring that all employers are using these visas in the spirit Congress intended – to fill jobs requiring highly skilled professionals in fields where qualified US workers are harder to find,” said Scott Corley, executive director of Compete America. “Each year, American companies spend millions of dollars to recruit and train U.S. workers, but high skilled immigration programs continue to be necessary components for maintaining our country’s leadership and competitiveness. We are hopeful that reforms announced today by President Trump will respect the thousands of employers who use the program as intended. Our organization will continue to work with the Trump Administration and members of Congress to achieve necessary legislative reforms of America’s high skilled immigration system that will eliminate abuses of the system while preserving our nation’s global competitiveness.”
