Statement of Compete America on Hatch Amendments to Senate Immigration Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Compete America, a coalition dedicated to ensuring that the United States has the highly educated and innovative workforce necessary to grow the economy and create American jobs, issued the following statement regarding the Senate immigration legislation voted on today and Senator Orrin Hatch’s (R-UT) amendments to the legislation:

“We had hoped that today we would see the Senate pass DACA legislation and we are disappointed that didn’t happen,” said Scott Corley, executive director of Compete America. “Providing legal certainty to young undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children is an important component of long overdue comprehensive immigration reform. Another important component of immigration reform we hope to see in the near future is reform that considers the need for high-skilled workers. We appreciate Senator Hatch’s leadership in proposing ‘I-Squared’ amendments that would protect U.S. workers, promote fairness for high skilled immigrants in the green card backlog, and ensure that employers can hire the qualified workforce they need to continue our nation’s unprecedented success as the global leader in innovation. These are vital issues for many of our nation’s leading companies and Congress must address them. Compete America will continue to press lawmakers to tackle these long overdue reforms.”
